Zirconium (Zr) is a silvery metal with a density of 6.5 g/cm³. It is characterized by a very low neutron absorption cross-section and a high melting point (1855 °C / 3371 °F), making it an essential material in the nuclear industry. In fact, during the 1990s, nearly 90% of global zirconium production was consumed for nuclear power applications.
Beyond nuclear power, zirconium and its alloys are increasingly recognized for their excellent corrosion resistance, especially in harsh chemical environments such as acetic and hydrochloric acids. This resistance comes from a stable, tightly adherent oxide layer that forms naturally on the surface. Because of these properties, zirconium is widely used for specialized components, including electrodes, foils, flanges, bolts, tubes, and rods. Zirconium is also valued in the medical field, where it is used in implants and medical equipment.
Zirconium Foil (Zr Foil)
Zirconium foil offers excellent mechanical strength even at elevated temperatures, making it suitable for use as a support or structural component in high-temperature environments. It is also an important material for coating and thin-film applications in Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) processes. Most zirconium foils are manufactured from high-purity cast ingots to ensure consistency and performance.
GESmaterials supplies high-quality zirconium foil tailored to customer specifications. Our zirconium foils feature:
Excellent corrosion resistance in aggressive chemical environments
High-temperature stability and mechanical strength
Availability in customized thicknesses and dimensions
Whether for research, nuclear-related applications, or advanced coating processes, GESmaterials provides reliable zirconium foil solutions at competitive prices.
