Boron Carbide (B4C)

Boron Carbide (B₄C) is a high-performance ceramic material with unique physical and chemical properties, with a Mohs hardness of approximately 9.5, making it one of the hardest known materials. It exhibits exceptional corrosion resistance to most acid and alkali solutions at room temperature, maintaining its chemical integrity even at higher temperatures. Boron Carbide is resistant to oxidation below 600°C, and above 600°C, a B₂O₃ film forms on its surface to prevent further oxidation. Boron Carbide has a wide range of applications, including as a neutron absorber in the nuclear industry, in military applications such as tank armor and bulletproof vests, in wear-resistant materials for grinding and drilling, and in lightweight armor to reduce vehicle weight and save energy.
