• Gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) enhance magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by improving visibility of blood vessels, tumors, and inflammation.
• Examples: Gadopentetate (Magnevist), Gadodiamide (Omniscan).
• Note: Some GBCAs are linked to nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) in patients with kidney problems.

Nuclear Reactors

• Used as a neutron absorber in control rods (e.g., gadolinium oxide) due to its high neutron capture ability.
• Helps regulate nuclear fission reactions.

Electronics & Magnetics

• Used in data storage devices, magnets, and superconductors.
