Lanthanum Metal is used for hydrogen storage materials and as a reducing agent for processing other rare earth metals. It is an additive in steel and non-ferrous metals, a hydrogen storage matrix material, and a reducing agent for producing other metals. It is used in expensive camera lenses, lighters, battery electrodes, and catalytic converters. High-purity lanthanum oxide can be used to manufacture precision lenses; lanthanum-nickel alloys can be used as hydrogen storage materials; lanthanum hexaboride is widely used as a high-power electron-emitting cathode.
