Description:

Zirconia Toughened Alumina (ZTA) is a high-performance composite ceramic that combines the superior hardness of alumina with the excellent toughness of zirconia. This material offers enhanced flexural strength, fracture toughness, wear resistance, and overall mechanical performance—making it an ideal choice for demanding structural applications.

Compared to pure alumina, ZTA provides 20–30% higher strength, while being more cost-effective than pure zirconia materials such as YTZP, MSZ, or CSZ. The improvement in toughness is due to a phenomenon known as transformation toughening, where zirconia particles undergo a phase transformation under stress, effectively blocking crack propagation in the alumina matrix.

Applications:

Gesmaterials offers custom ZTA ceramic rods with adjustable alumina-to-zirconia ratios (typically 10–20% zirconia) based on user requirements, ensuring optimal performance for specific applications.

  • Structural ceramics
  • High-wear components
  • Chemical processing systems
  • Medical and precision engineering devices
